Jupiter Analysts Tell Scoble to Get Over Himself RE: RSS

Posted by: of ExecutiveSummary.com on 02/23/05

Microsoft’s uber blog evangelist Robert Scoble is frothing at the mouth he’s so mad about about a marketer daring to not have RSS on his site. He blogged [emphasis his] "Sorry, if you do a marketing site and you don’t have an RSS feed today you should be fired. I’ll say it again. You should be fired if you do a marketing site without an RSS feed." Easy, boy. We’ll get a doctor. You’ll pull through.

Jupiter Research analyst Eric Peterson politely suggested Scoble get a grip, that RSS really isn’t for everyone. His colleague Michael Gartenberg concurs. Me too.

  1. Robert Scoble. Silly?

Rick Bruner of Business Blog Consulting calls out Microsoft’s Official Blogger Robert Scoble for insisting that lack of RSS on a marketing site is a firing offense.

  2. The Real Issue Behind the RSS Debate

There’s been a bit of chat in the business blogoshpere lately about a post Robert Scoble made a couple weeks ago about how he “ripped the head off of a coworker” for not having an RSS feed on a marketing site.

  3. I wonder if Scoble was yelling at me. I posted a couple of posts on his The Red Couch blog about RSS being worthless noise.

RSS is “push” rather than “pull”. It pushes content at me, with obnoxious blinking pill shaped widgets, like flashing banner ads. Ugh.

You cannot read user comments via RSS. There is RSS spamming. John Maeda says RSS is not so simple after all:

I don’t buy all the hype about RSS, and I’m uncertain about podcasting. Podcasting I’m a lot more interested in, because of Evan Williams’ Odeo and Amy Gahran plugging podcasting.

I go to all the blogs I feel are necessary to visit. I don’t need no stinkin’ RSS to shout at me blinkingly. Thanks.
